Pare Privacy Policy
Pare is built on one principle: what you log and what your body does are yours, and they stay on your device. We have no servers that store your drinks, your alcohol-free nights, your check-ins, or your Apple Health readings. We can’t sell what we don’t have.
This policy covers the Pare iOS app only. The Alibee LLC website has its own separate privacy policy, and our other apps have theirs.
Who we are
Pare is published by Alibee LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”), a New York company. If you have privacy questions, email us at [email protected]. General questions can go to [email protected].
What data we collect — and where it lives
Data you enter
Everything you type or tap into Pare is stored only on your device, using Apple’s SwiftData framework. That includes:
- each drink you log — kind, vessel, size, and time;
- alcohol-free nights and not-tracked nights you mark;
- morning check-ins, the symptoms you pick, and any notes you write;
- your goal, your plan, and the strategies or if-then plans you set;
- what you told us about a typical week, your drinking contexts, and your motivations;
- your display name, your reminder times, your theme, and an insurance plan name if you enter one;
- any care providers you save.
None of it leaves your phone unless you choose to export or share it. There is no upload, no sync, and no backup to us.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
Pare only reads from Apple Health. It never writes to it. Pare requests read access and no share access at all, so it cannot add, change, or delete anything in your Health app — not a drink, not a check-in, not a symptom.
If you grant permission, Pare reads:
- heart rate and resting heart rate;
- heart rate variability (HRV);
- sleep analysis;
- sleeping wrist temperature;
- step count and active energy;
- workouts and physical effort;
- blood oxygen (SpO₂) and respiratory rate;
- time in daylight;
- State of Mind logs.
Pare asks Apple Health to notify it when new heart rate variability, resting heart rate, or sleep data arrives, so your morning read is ready when you open the app. Pare never keeps the raw Health samples — it reads them, derives a value, and discards the sample. Only the derived values (your baselines, your daily Pare Number, and the patterns behind it) are saved, on your device.
If you decline Health access, or grant only part of it, Pare keeps working. The metrics it can’t see simply drop out, and the app says so rather than guessing.
Location and weather
Location is optional and is used for one thing: local weather. If you allow it, Pare asks for your location while you’re using the app and sends it to Apple’s WeatherKit to fetch current conditions, because heat, sun, and air quality shape how a night lands. Your coordinates go to Apple to answer that request. Pare never stores your location — not the coordinates, not a place name, not a history. Only the weather values that come back (feels-like temperature, UV index, air quality, and chance of precipitation) are kept on your device, as part of the record behind that day’s Pare Number.
Pare asks the system for a coarse fix — roughly city-level — but iOS presents the standard precise-location prompt, and you can choose “Precise: Off” there or deny location entirely. Everything else in the app works without it.
Finding care
The care finder uses the ZIP code you type — never your device location. When you search, Pare sends that ZIP and the kind of provider you picked to the NPPES National Provider Identifier Registry, a public directory of licensed U.S. providers run by the federal government. Only the ZIP and the provider type go with the request. Your name, your logs, your health data, and any identifier stay on your phone. Pare doesn’t keep the ZIP after the search, though any provider you explicitly save is stored on your device.
Two optional buttons hand a search off to another app or site, and each carries the ZIP you typed:
- Opening a map passes the ZIP and the provider description to Apple Maps.
- Looking up health plans passes the ZIP to healthcare.gov in your browser.
Both are yours to tap or ignore. Pare also uses Apple’s MapKit to turn the ZIP into a location so it can sort results by distance — that request goes to Apple and contains only the ZIP. Crisis and support phone numbers open your phone app with the number filled in; Pare places no call on its own and records nothing about it.
On-device intelligence
Pare’s daily read, insights, and suggestions are generated by Apple’s Foundation Models running directly on your iPhone. Your drinks, your check-ins, and your health readings are never sent to a cloud AI service — not by us, not by anyone. There is no remote fallback: if on-device generation isn’t available, Pare uses its own built-in logic instead.
No account required
Pare has no sign-up, no login, and no email address. We have no way to identify you, and no profile of you exists anywhere but on your phone.
App Lock
If you turn on App Lock in Settings → Privacy, Pare asks iOS to verify you with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode before it opens. Pare never sees your face, your fingerprint, or your passcode. iOS performs the check inside the Secure Enclave and tells Pare only whether it succeeded. No biometric data is available to us, ever.
The lock is off unless you turn it on, and it always accepts your device passcode as well as biometrics — so a mask, a wet thumb, or a restored device can never separate you from your own records. If your device can’t perform the check at all, Pare opens rather than locking you out.
Your lock setting and how quickly it re-arms are stored on your device as ordinary preferences. They deliberately survive “delete all my data” — clearing your log should never quietly unlock your app. Turn the lock off in Settings when you want it off.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. There are no push notifications — Pare has no server to send them and never registers for them. Reminder wording is chosen using what you’ve logged, but the text itself never names drinking, counts, or any health value.
Optional feedback
If you send feedback from Settings, Pare opens a draft email to [email protected] in your own mail app. It contains the message you typed and your app version and build — nothing else, and none of your records. Pare hands the draft to Mail; it never sends anything itself, and you can edit or discard it. If you rate content inside the app, that rating is saved on your device and is never transmitted.
Analytics and crash reporting
Pare contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs — none at all. It has no third-party dependencies whatsoever. It does not use the advertising identifier and never asks to track you.
For stability, Pare uses Apple’s on-device MetricKit, whose performance and diagnostic reports stay in your device’s own logs. Separately, if you have turned on “Share With App Developers” in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share anonymized, aggregated crash and usage reports with us through App Store Connect. That sharing is controlled entirely by Apple and by that setting, never identifies you, and can be turned off at any time.
What we do not collect
- We do not transmit your drink logs, check-ins, or health data to any server — ours or anyone’s.
- We do not use advertising networks, and we never sell your data or share it with data brokers.
- We do not build advertising or marketing profiles of you.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sync anything to iCloud.
- We never estimate blood alcohol content or anything about your fitness to drive. Pare is not a breathalyzer.
The only things that ever leave your device are the ZIP you type for a care search, your location for a weather lookup if you allow it, whatever you deliberately export and share, and your App Store purchase — each described above.
Subscriptions
Pare’s optional support subscription is processed entirely through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. We never see your payment information, and there is no receipt server of ours involved. Your subscription status is read from Apple at runtime and is not written into your records or your export. No feature is gated — everything in Pare works whether or not you subscribe.
Children’s privacy
Pare is designed for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Data export, import, and deletion
Export. You choose when anything leaves. Pare can produce:
- a JSON backup from Settings, containing your profile and settings, your check-ins, your drink entries, your day marks, and your saved daily Pare Numbers. It does not include raw Apple Health samples, subscription status, generated cards, recommendations, baselines, health insights, content ratings, or widget cache data;
- two PDFs from the Log tab: a short analysis report, and a detailed day-by-day record. The detailed record can include Apple Health–derived values — sleep, resting heart rate, HRV, steps, and active energy — alongside your logs. Each section is a toggle you control, and your written notes are off by default behind an opt-in switch.
Every export is written into Pare’s own protected storage and then handed to the iOS share sheet, where you decide the destination. Pare never uploads an export anywhere. PDF exports are cleaned out of the app’s cache automatically after 24 hours; anything you’ve already saved or sent lives wherever you put it.
Import. You can import a JSON backup from Settings. Pare validates it first, asks you to confirm, and then replaces the data on this device rather than merging. Importing never writes anything to Apple Health.
Delete. Settings → Privacy → “Delete all my data” removes every record Pare keeps — your drinks, day marks, check-ins, Pare Numbers, cards, recommendations, baselines, insights, saved providers, preferences, and content ratings — clears the data behind the widget, and cancels your scheduled reminders. Because everything lives on your device, deletion is immediate and permanent: we have no copy to delete on our end.
In the interest of being exact, a few small non-health items deliberately survive that reset: your App Lock setting, the record that you accepted this policy and its version, your reminder cadence preference, the note that Apple Health access has already been requested, and internal counters Pare uses to time its own prompts and to avoid repeating the same reminder wording. None of them describe your drinking or your body. Files you already exported or shared are also unaffected. Deleting the app removes everything on the device outright.
Your consent
By tapping “Get started” during onboarding, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Privacy Policy. We record the date and version of the policy you agreed to, on your device.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and policy version above and notify you in-app. Continued use of Pare after a policy update constitutes acceptance.
