Pare Support
Pare shows you what your body did overnight — HRV, resting heart rate, sleep — against your own baseline, with drink nights marked. It describes; it doesn’t grade. If something isn’t behaving, or a number doesn’t make sense, start here.
Getting started
What does Pare actually do?
You log what you drank, or mark a night alcohol-free. The next morning, Pare reads your overnight Apple Health data — heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep — and tells you in plain language how that night compared to your own baseline, not a population average.
It is not a sobriety program and not a curriculum. There is no streak to break, no score to be ashamed of, and no vocabulary of slipping or failing.
What do I need to run Pare?
An iPhone running iOS 26.5 or later. Pare includes a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget. There is no Apple Watch app yet.
On an Apple Intelligence–capable device, Pare’s daily read is generated on device by Apple’s Foundation Models. Without it, Pare falls back to its own built-in, evidence-based logic — the app works either way.
Do I need an account?
No. Pare has no sign-up, no login, and no email address. Nothing to remember, nothing to leak.
Does Pare need Apple Health?
It’s optional, but it’s where the body-evidence comes from. Pare requests read access only — it can never write to, change, or delete anything in your Health app.
If you decline, or grant only part of it, Pare keeps working: the metrics it can’t see simply drop out, and the app says so rather than guessing. You can change what it reads any time in iOS Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices → Pare.
Can I change my goal after onboarding?
Yes. Pare asks early whether you want to cut back, add more alcohol-free days, or just observe, and you can change that later in Settings. Choosing “just observe” is a legitimate answer, not a placeholder.
Logging and your numbers
I forgot to log last night. Does Pare count it as alcohol-free?
Never. An unlogged night is an unknown night, and Pare treats it as unknown. It will not quietly credit you with an alcohol-free night you didn’t have, and it won’t assume you drank either. You can go back and log or mark a past night, or leave it as not tracked.
When does a “day” roll over in Pare?
At 4:00 AM, not midnight. A drink at 1 AM belongs to the night before, which is how people actually experience it — and it keeps the overnight body data attached to the right night.
Why can’t I see a drink-night vs. alcohol-free comparison yet?
Because Pare doesn’t want to tell you something it can’t back up. A comparison needs at least four drink nights and four alcohol-free nights with usable overnight data before it will show one. Below that, the difference you’d see is noise dressed up as a finding.
Keep logging and it will appear on its own.
My Pare Number is missing, or a metric shows as unavailable.
Usually one of these:
- No overnight data. HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep mostly come from wearing an Apple Watch (or a compatible device) overnight. Without a night of data, there is nothing to read.
- Health permissions. Check that Pare still has read access to the relevant types in iOS Settings.
- It’s early in the day. Sleep and overnight metrics arrive in Health after you wake and sync; give it a little while.
- Not enough history yet. Baselines are built from your data, so the first stretch is deliberately quiet rather than confidently wrong.
When Pare doesn’t know something, it says so instead of filling the gap. That’s the app working as designed.
Does Pare estimate my blood alcohol content?
No. Pare never estimates BAC, intoxication, or anything about your fitness to drive. It is not a breathalyzer and must not be used as one.
Why does Pare ask about weather?
Heat, sun, and air quality shape how a night lands, so if you allow location Pare fetches current conditions from Apple’s WeatherKit while you’re using the app. Your location is never stored — only the weather values that come back. You can decline location entirely and everything else still works.
Your data
Where does my data live?
On your iPhone. There is no Pare server holding your drinks, your check-ins, or your health readings — no upload, no sync, no iCloud backup to us. Pare’s insights are generated on device; nothing is sent to a cloud AI service.
The full detail is in the Pare Privacy Policy.
How do I back up or move my data to a new phone?
Export a JSON backup from Settings, save it somewhere you control, then use Import in Settings on the new phone. Import validates the file, asks you to confirm, and then replaces what’s on that device rather than merging — so import into a fresh install, not on top of records you want to keep.
Because we hold no copy of anything, an export you made yourself is the only backup that exists. Please make one before switching phones.
Can I get a report to show my doctor?
Yes. The Log tab can produce two PDFs: a short analysis report and a detailed day-by-day record. Each section is a toggle you control, and your written notes are off by default behind an opt-in switch.
Exports go to the iOS share sheet, where you choose the destination. Pare never uploads one anywhere.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Privacy → “Delete all my data.” That removes your drinks, day marks, check-ins, Pare Numbers, cards, recommendations, baselines, insights, saved providers, preferences, and content ratings, clears the widget’s data, and cancels scheduled reminders. It is immediate and permanent — we have no copy to delete.
A few deliberately non-health items survive that reset, including your App Lock setting and the record of which privacy policy version you accepted. Clearing your log should never quietly unlock your app. Deleting Pare from your phone removes everything outright.
I turned on App Lock and now I can’t get in.
App Lock always accepts your device passcode as well as Face ID or Touch ID, so a mask, a wet thumb, or a restored device can never lock you out of your own records. If your device can’t perform the check at all, Pare opens rather than refusing you.
Turn it off in Settings → Privacy whenever you want.
Subscription and notifications
What does subscribing get me?
Nothing extra — on purpose. Pare’s subscription is an optional support subscription with no feature gating. Everything in the app works whether or not you pay. Subscribing funds the work; it doesn’t unlock it.
How do I cancel, or get a refund?
Both go through Apple. Cancel in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We never see your payment information and can’t process either one for you.
I subscribed but Pare doesn’t show it.
Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple Account that made the purchase, then use Restore Purchases on the support screen. Subscription status is read from Apple at runtime, so it can lag briefly after a purchase or a device change. If it still doesn’t appear, email us with the date of purchase.
Will Pare’s notifications say anything about drinking?
No. Reminder wording is chosen from what you’ve logged, but the text itself never names drinking, counts, or any health value — a notification on your lock screen in front of someone else won’t out you. Reminders are scheduled locally; Pare has no server and never registers for push notifications.
Times and cadence are yours to set in Settings, or to turn off entirely.
If you’re worried about your drinking
Pare is a mirror, not a treatment program, and it can’t tell you whether you have a problem. If your drinking is worrying you, that’s worth saying out loud to a clinician who can help.
In the United States, the SAMHSA National Helpline is free, confidential, and open 24/7 at 1-800-662-HELP (4357). Outside the US, your local health service can point you to the equivalent.
If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

Include your Pare version (Settings → About), your iPhone and iOS version, and what you expected versus what happened. Please don’t send exports or health records unless we ask — we’d rather not have them.
